25.6 The human (functional) form

When we think about the correspondences proposed in the previous section, we see many details which are found in our human bodies. They are not found in the shape, size or mass of our body but in the functional form of humans. They are found in the patterns and networks of events within our human functional form since this network pattern is what sustains the connections with our mental and spiritual bodies. Other animals, even plants, have limited or simplified forms which are functional in their own individual ways.

Within theistic science, the hypothesis concerning the human functional form will have important consequences for the possibilities of, say, life on other planets and especially for the evolution of life on this planet. We do not predict that possible extraterrestrial beings will look exactly like humans, but that, though their bodies may be very different, their internal functions will have a ‘topological’ structure that is also an image of God and hence will have some similarities to our own.
